In the center of Poiana Stampei, Via Transilvanica leaves the DN17 main road towards Teșna and Tătaru. It then continues along approximately 4 km of asphalt and a gravel road to the Tătaru hilltop. The change in road surfaces clearly describes the transition from the built-up area to the hilltop. The Vârful Piatra Dornei mountain is also located in the surroundings of Poiana Stampei. The Oușoru and Tarnița peaks are also nearby. In the wider regional area are Fărăoane, a peak, and Piatra Fântânele Cross, a monument.

Local History and Rural Traditions

The former wooden church “Biserica „Sf. Arh. Mihail și Gavriil“” was built with imperial approval between 1883 and 1885 and destroyed by fire in February 2015. A museum was established in Poiana Stampei to keep the local history alive and document the development of the municipality up to the present day. It illustrates traditional rural ways of life and crafts, such as house construction and use, weaving and spinning, agriculture, livestock farming, pottery, festive clothing, and the production and preparation of food.

Balul Gospodarilor and Cultural Memorial Sites

Balul Gospodarilor is a traditional cultural festival held annually in Poiana Stampei. It combines local customs, traditional dress and community identity with folk music, dancing, socializing and traditional food. The festival is presented to visitors as an authentic cultural experience. The Gruiul Mare Heroes’ Monument commemorates Romanian soldiers who died on Gruiul Mare. In spring 2005, a new monument was erected that incorporates the older one.
