Culture
The old church is located about 200 metres from the national road on Dubrora Hill, northeast of the village. The former Pauline church preserves an 18th-century Rococo-style iconostasis.
The new Ukrainian Orthodox parish church in Remeți, dedicated to All Saints, was built between 1984 and 1986. In 2001–2002, it was decorated with tempera paintings by a team of artists from the Ukrainian region of Zakarpattia. The Ukrainian church in Remeți connects prayer in the mother tongue with traditional customs and practices for the Ukrainian community.
For many years, the Ukrainian autumn customs and harvest festival “Obiceiuri de toamnă la ucraineni” (“Ziua Recoltei”) has been held in Remeți Commune. The “Remețeanca” cultural and artistic ensemble from Remeți, consisting of pupils from the general school, has been recognised at Ukrainian cultural events. The Remeți choir includes Ukrainian folk songs in its repertoire.
In the village of Teceu Mic, construction of the brick church began in 1985 and continued until 1992; initially, it took the form of a chapel. The Ukrainian Greek Catholic church there is a masonry chapel without an iconostasis and is dedicated to Saint George.
Nature
The mountains of Remeți are covered with beech forests; sessile oaks, hornbeams and wild cherries grow on the lower hills. Debra is considered a volcanic neck on the mountain ascent from Remeți.
The Remeți watercourse runs through the settlement of Remeți and flows into the Tisa River. Along the Tisa there are groups of trees and wet meadows that provide a habitat for numerous native or migratory waterbird species.
Hiking Trails
The tourist circular route on Muntele Bradului is 18–19 km long, takes about seven and a half hours and reaches an elevation of approximately 1,079 metres. The circular route on Muntele Bradului can be accessed from Pasul Huta or from Remeți.
A mountain hike from Remeți leads through the Bansca Valley and over the Măgura Pass towards Piatra cu Iezer. The mountain hike offers views of the Tisa corridor and the village of Remeți.
The area can be reached by bus or minibus services on the Baia Mare–Negrești Oaș–Sighetu Marmației route; travelling by private car is also possible.
Local Information
In the village of Remeți, young leaves of Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica Houtt.; synonym Fallopia japonica) are used; there they are known as “bambus” or “bambusyna”.
