Nature and Landscape
The Cheile Tătarului Nature Reserve is located in the municipality of Deseşti and the village of Mara. It covers 15.00 hectares. Its length is 0.7 kilometers. Cheile Tătarului is a gorge carved into pyroxene andesite. The western slope is almost vertical and rocky. There is an overhang on this slope. The eastern slope consists of scree slopes and woodland. Within the gorge, the two sides of the slope differ clearly: on the western side, rock and the overhang characterize the terrain, while on the eastern side, scree slopes and woodland predominate. As a result, the gorge displays two clearly different landforms within a confined area, lying directly next to each other and defining the character of this nature reserve.
Creasta Cocoșului has been protected since 1954. It is designated as a nature reserve. This nature reserve covers 50 hectares. Creasta Cocoșului forms a jagged mountain ridge. It is approximately 200 meters long and lies at an average elevation of 1,200 meters. Its protected status, ridge shape, and elevation define the distinctive landscape character of this destination.
