Landscape

The municipality of Tisău encompasses numerous valleys covered by forests. The Ciolanu and Istrița ranges are forested and are also known as Dealul Mare. In the wider regional surroundings of the Nișcov Valley, there are wooded hills, meadows, vineyards and limestone slopes with shell rock, shaped by the waters of the Nișcov and its tributaries.

Roads and regional surroundings

The most important access road to Tisău is county road DJ100H. In an easterly direction, it connects Tisău with Vernești, where it ends at DN10. The main route through the Nișcov Valley follows DJ100H through Tisău. From Haleș and Izvoru, DJ203G runs northwards to Ciolanu Monastery, where it partly follows the same route as DJ100H.

The Poiana Pinului recreation centre can be reached by public transport via DN10 and DJ100H.

Culture and history

Barbu Monastery was founded between 1664 and 1669 by Captain Barbu Bădeanu and is located in the village of Leiculești in the municipality of Tisău. The monastery includes a church dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel that is classified as a historic monument.

The ensemble of the former Bradu Monastery is located in the village of Haleș in the municipality of Tisău. It comprises an enclosing wall, ruined outbuildings and a church. The first documented mention of Bradu Monastery dates from 15 January 1600.

The Tisău Cultural Centre is located in the village of Valea Sălciilor in the municipality of Tisău. It preserves and carries forward the memory of rural life in Buzău County.

Places and activities

The Poiana Pinului recreation centre is located in Haleș in the municipality of Tisău, at the foot of Ciolanu Hill. The recreation centre includes, among other things, a sports field.

At Izvoranu, a village in the municipality of Tisău, the approved motocross enduro track is 2,000 metres long. The local enduro base offers introductory motocross enduro courses and is a starting point for motorcycle excursions on individually adapted routes with beginner, intermediate and advanced difficulty levels. The well-known motocross enduro event takes place in the village every year.

Izvoranu Racing Park hosted the final round of the 2024 Romanian National Endurocross Championship on 2 November 2024. In the forested ranges of the municipality of Tisău, activities such as enduro are considered particularly popular or well regarded. Walks along mountain trails are likewise considered particularly popular or well regarded there.
