Măgura in Piatra Craiului National Park

Măgura is located within Piatra Craiului National Park. In one area of the national park, you can use the park’s mountain hiking trails. Măgura is also located within the Natura 2000 sites ROSCI0194 Piatra Craiului and ROSPA0165 Piatra Craiului. The administration of Piatra Craiului National Park offers visits to the mountain village of Măgura and traditional sheepfolds.
Nature and mountain trails
In Piatra Craiului National Park, which includes areas around Măgura, guided excursions for observing wildlife and identifying animal tracks are offered. Visits to primeval forests and educational trails are also offered there as visitor activities. The nature experiences therefore range from observing animals and their tracks to visiting primeval forests and following educational trails. In addition, the park’s mountain hiking trails are available in the area where Măgura is located.
Cycling routes and views
The moderately difficult Cycling Route 4 descends into the village of Măgura shortly before Casa Folea. The same route descends via Coturile Măgurii to Fântâna lui Botorog. Cycling Route 7 passes through Măgura and continues to the area above Prăpăstiile Zărneștiului. Cycling Route 7 offers views of the Bran slope of the Bucegi Mountains and the eastern slope of Piatra Craiului.
Cycling Route 8 includes a steep descent towards Moieciu de Jos with water crossings and muddy pools. Via Coturile Măgurii, Cycling Route 8 climbs uphill through Măgura. Thus, the routes mentioned run in different directions: Route 4 leads to Fântâna lui Botorog, Route 7 continues beyond the village, and Route 8 heads towards Moieciu de Jos and then climbs uphill through Măgura again. Prăpăstiile Măgurei is considered one of the tourist attractions of Moieciu commune.
Culture and events
Casa Artiștilor in Măgura is a venue for concerts, artistic residencies and other cultural events. Casa Artiștilor has hosted SoNoRo concerts on several occasions. Festivalul de Artă Sacră Măgura is a recurring cultural event with editions in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
At the Festivalul de Artă Sacră in Măgura, the 2024 programme included sewing and weaving traditional clothing, a traditional bread-making workshop and a folk dance workshop with choreographer Benone Pepine. The cultural programme therefore combines textile handicrafts, bread-making and folk dancing with concerts and artistic residencies at the Casa Artiștilor venue.
Traditional crafts
The traditional Runceanu House in Măgura is a traditional house built of wood. In Măgura, there is a workshop for making traditional wooden brooms where participants learn how to make such brooms. The workshop includes gathering birch branches and hazel rods, weaving bundles of broom twigs and attaching them to handles. The individual steps therefore range from gathering natural materials to producing a finished broom with a handle attached.
A holiday apartment in Măgura can be used as a natural reference point for planning an overnight stay, while the activities described connect the place name with nature, cycling routes, events and traditional crafts.
