Finiș: Finiș Fortress, Village Museum and Valea Finișului

Valea Finișului is known for the ruins of Finiș Fortress. These ruins stand on a peak on the edge of the village of Finiș. Finiș Fortress is a medieval refuge and defensive fortress that is accessible from only one side. Cetatea din Finiș Fortress dates from the 13th to the 14th century.

Culture

The Finiș Village Museum is a small museum in the Beiuș Land, established in a household inherited by its owner from the grandparents. The rooms of this museum are designed in a style typical of the Beiuș Land and the wider region. The museum also contains a traditional loom from 1928. The loom is a single, specifically dated handicraft object in this house. Before visiting the museum, current opening hours should be checked so that the visit can be planned accordingly. The Orthodox parish church of Finiș is dated to 1848. Its date therefore differs considerably from that of the loom in the museum.

Nature

In the municipality of Finiș, part of the municipal forest estate overlaps with the ROSCI0042 Codru Moma Natura 2000 protected area. In Valea Finișului, wooded slopes of the Codru Moma rise on both sides of the road; a river flows between them. When travelling through the valley, current route conditions should be checked in advance.

Huta Hermitage

Huta Hermitage was established in 1998 in the Valea Finișului valley under the protection of Stâna de Vale Monastery and is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The church of Huta Hermitage was built in 1927 and restored in 1973 by Bishop Vasile Coman. From the village centre, Huta Hermitage is approximately 12 km away, on the left-hand side of the forest road leading from Finiș through Valea Finișului. Access from Beiuș is via DJ764F towards Finiș: first 4 km, followed by 12 km on a forest road to Huta Hermitage. The two distance figures refer to different starting points: the village centre and the approach from Beiuș. Current conditions on the forest road should be checked in advance before travelling.

Getting there

The municipality of Finiș is mainly accessible by road via the DJ 764 Beiuș–Finiș–Stâncești county road. It connects the village with Beiuș, which is approximately 6 km away. From Beiuș, Finiș can be reached via the connection to the DN76 Oradea–Deva national road. No railway line runs through the municipality. The nearest railway station is in Beiuș and offers only limited services. Those travelling without a train should therefore take the road connection via Beiuș into account.
