Mountain Landscape at Corno de Bico
The Paisagem Protegida do Corno de Bico lies on the south-eastern edge of the municipality of Paredes de Coura. The protected area encompasses the freguesias of Bico, Castanheira, Cristelo, Parada and Vascões. Its landscape is predominantly mountainous and characterised by rounded forms. Corno de Bico reaches an elevation of 883 metres and is the highest point in the northern region.
The landscape is particularly striking at the Miradouro da Senhora da Pena. From there, views extend across the Coura Valley and its agricultural land. The Caminho de Santiago reaches Paredes de Coura at Cabanas after descending from Portela Grande da Labruja along the mountain ridge. At Cabanas, it passes a group of traditional watermills that are in good condition and still in use. The route then continues from Paredes de Coura to Valença.
