By the sea, the Forte dos Reis Magos recalls the former fortification of the coastline. The fortress was built for this purpose in the 18th century. Its square layout, the guard facilities on the landward side and the esplanade facing the sea define its distinctive appearance. The Forte dos Reis Magos is located next to Praia dos Reis Magos, where there is also a restaurant and a bar.

For a viewpoint, the Miradouro do Cristo Rei is a good option. From there, panoramic views extend over Garajau’s natural heritage and part of Funchal Bay. The Núcleo Museológico da Casa do Povo do Caniço presents the permanent exhibition “Caniço: de Campo a Cidade”. Held annually in the town centre, Gastronómica do Caniço is dedicated to local and regional cuisine and combines food stalls with music and street entertainment.
