Oeiras: Coastal Path, Culture and Wine

Oeiras combines its seaside location with a diverse cultural landscape and lies around 10 kilometres from Lisbon. This historical spectrum is complemented by the Roman villa on Rua das Alcássimas, which is documented in Oeiras’s historic centre. In the Oeiras area, the Cartuxa de Laveiras is also considered one of only two Carthusian monasteries in Portugal.

Cultural programmes and special venues

Oeiras also offers points of interest for trips in which a cultural programme plays an important role. MAP – Mostra de Artes da Palavra is a cultural programme devoted entirely to the word and its connection with other artistic disciplines. MAP has been established as an ongoing annual programme. The centre of the events held throughout the year is located at the Templo da Poesia in Parque dos Poetas.

The Corrida do Tejo is also part of Oeiras’s annual calendar. The running event takes place every year and is connected with life along Oeiras’s waterfront. The Adega do Casal da Manteiga is an 18th-century building; production of Carcavelos fortified wine began there in 2001.
