Mêda: Culture, Plateau Views and Wine

Mêda is located on a plateau approximately 760 metres high. From here, the ridges of the Serra da Estrela can be seen to the south and those of the Marão to the north. The municipal walking route “Percurso I – Mêda Urbana” leads through the town. Since 2001, the Museu Municipal de Mêda has presented the history of the region's inhabitants, offering its own insight into the local past.

The Torre do Relógio was built in the 19th century using stones from a demolished chapel. A 7,000-year-old Neolithic settlement and a Roman village were also discovered in the municipality of Mêda. The Vale do Mouro archaeological site preserves the remains of a Roman bathhouse and a tiled courtyard.
