The Walkartpark is a historic, green park, a Rijksmonument and a place with significant cultural and historical value. In the forests near Zeist lies Landgoed Heidestein, where heathland and drifting sands have been preserved.

Nature and Paths

The Schaapskooi Heidestein Visitor Centre is housed in a former potstal built in Zeist in 1884. The nature walk on Heidestein begins at the Schaapskooi Visitor Centre; its entrance can be reached via the Kerckeboschlaan at the intersection with the Hoog Kanje in Zeist. For the walk on Heidestein, bus route 58 serves the Hoog Kanje stop in Zeist.

The walking route on Landgoed Heidestein is 4.5 kilometres long. In the Heidestein and Bornia area, there are two marked paths that can be combined into one route, as well as two children's routes. The information on path length and route combinations can be compared for your daily planning.

Het Zeisterbos is a particularly old forest. While walking there, you may have the chance to spot species such as the common redstart, tawny owl, goldcrest and marsh tit.

De Boswerf has a natural play forest where children can play and is a good starting point for hikes, cycling tours, as well as adventure and treasure walks. Activities for young and old are organised at De Boswerf. The walking route around Slot Zeist connects forests, estates and paths through the farmland.

Culture and History

Slot Zeist was designed by Roman in the Dutch Classicist style. Its castle garden is open to the public between 09:00 and 17:00; guided tours of Slot Zeist take visitors into rooms that are normally inaccessible.

Changing exhibitions are currently held at Slot Zeist throughout the year. Since 2015, an art route has connected Slot Zeist with the centre of Zeist. The Walkartpark lies between Slot Zeist and the centre of Zeist and is used for walking, meeting others and recreation.

The Het Hernhutter Huis Museum presents the history and life of the Moravians. Its permanent exhibition includes liturgical objects, hymnals, photographs, prints and posters. The guided tours at Het Hernhutter Huis also include a tour of the squares, cemeteries and other places of interest.

Food and Cycling Tours

After walks or cycling tours through the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the Orangerie at Slot Zeist offers coffee with homemade pastries, lunch, as well as drinks and snacks. The Culinaire Route Zeist is a 6.7-kilometre walk along restaurants, historic sites and the nature of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. It starts at TOP Slot Zeist.
