Waterline and Hiking Route
The Koeneschans Smuggling Route is a 16.8-kilometre hiking route for which a duration of five hours is indicated. Thirty percent of its route is unpaved.
The combination of the route length, the stated walking time and the unpaved sections describes an extended hike on different types of terrain.
Culture and History
Vlist, together with the hamlet of Bonrepas to the south, forms a protected villagescape. The former town hall at Oost-Vlisterdijk 36 was built in 1911. Today, it is the “Het Wapen van Vlist” café.
The Tot Hier an Toe farm at West-Vlisterdijk 64 dates from 1597. The present-day De Bachtenaar windmill was probably built in 1714.
Oost-Vlisterdijk 21 is a farmstead originating from IJsselstein, dating from the 17th century, with relieving arches and a gable on the right-hand side façade. This gable has stepped brickwork, a trefoil motif, a red relieving arch and anchors.
Oost-Vlisterdijk 26 is a farmstead from IJsselstein, probably dating from the 17th century, beneath a thatched roof. The front façade has old window frames and an 18th-century window division.
This means that various historical traces from different periods stand side by side in the same location: the former town hall from 1911, the farmstead from 1597, the present-day windmill probably built in 1714, and farmsteads with architectural elements from the 17th and 18th centuries. The façade details mentioned range from relieving arches and anchors to stepped brickwork, a trefoil motif, a red relieving arch, old window frames and a historic window division.
