Pijnacker-Nootdorp: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Pijnacker-Nootdorp is located in a landscape where nature, waterways and historic places are closely connected. De Groenzoom is a 450-hectare nature and recreation area between the municipalities of Lansingerland and Pijnacker-Nootdorp, bordering Zoetermeer-Rokkeveen. As a green buffer zone between the surrounding settlements, De Groenzoom connects Midden-Delfland with the Groene Hart.
Nature and landscape
The surrounding landscape also includes Buytenhout, a contiguous nature and recreation area. It comprises green areas in the municipalities of Delft, Zoetermeer and Pijnacker-Nootdorp, as well as areas managed by Staatsbosbeheer. Bieslandse Bos combines woodland, marshland and pasture and has many kilometres of walking and cycling paths. Wandelbos Laakweg connects Bieslandse Bos with De Balij.
De Scheg marsh forest is located in De Balij. Birds can be observed there from a 60-metre-long footbridge. The Ackerdijkse Plassen are also natural areas with far-reaching views: they are considered an important bird area with numerous special bird species, and the view extends across the bird reserve to the Rotterdam skyline.
Paths and activities
De Groenzoom offers walking paths as well as cycling, canoeing and horse-riding routes. The second section of the historic green cycling route between Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Lansingerland and Rotterdam also runs through Groenzoom. It follows a route east of Pijnacker's built-up area through Groenzoom. GPX files are available for some Buytenhout routes to make them easier to follow while walking or cycling.
In Bieslandse Bos, birdwatching is possible in the Krekengebied and from the Virulypad; children can enjoy the Biesbusch play forest there. Wandelbos Laakweg provides space for sports and exercise, including running. Visitors can relax by the water and at several benches. De Balij has a play forest, and the Kabouterpad adventure trail for younger children starts at Stadsboerderij De Balijhoeve.
Water and recreation
Dobbeplas offers various forms of recreation. Visitors can swim, surf and fish there. The site includes a sandy beach, a water playground and grassy areas for picnics or sunbathing. Dobbeplas is also a Toeristisch Overstap Punt (TOP), with catering facilities, walking and cycling routes, and information boards. These boards contain maps and information about sights along the routes.
Culture and history
There are 15 historical information boards about the history of the municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp. In the centre of Pijnacker, a walking route leads to works of art in public spaces; there is also a related treasure hunt for children. The “Kunst in de openbare ruimte” collection in Pijnacker-Nootdorp can be explored on foot or by bicycle.
Several historical walks in Pijnacker have been compiled and made available as PDF files. During these walks, visitors follow a route of their own choosing through the streets and can use their smartphones to access information about the respective themes along the way. The historical routes thus connect the streets of the town with information available during the tour.
Notable historic buildings include the Bieslandse Bovenmolen. It is a municipal monument; the lower part of its mill body at the octagonal polder mill originally dates from 1784. The Bieslandse Bovenmolen also keeps alive the memory of the local history of water management in this part of the municipality. Windlust, a grain mill, stands in Nootdorp and was moved there from Delft in 1885. The mill built there in 1781 was originally an octagonal, thatched bark and snuff tobacco mill. Windlust is open to the public; visits are possible by appointment.
The farm complex at Noordeindseweg 42 also reaches far back into history: its layout dates from the end of the 16th century and makes it one of the oldest within the municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp. The Gravesteyn organic dairy farm in the municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp offers educational activities on the farm. Another local attraction is Kaasboerderij van Leeuwen, which welcomes visitors to its farm shop and offers a selection of fresh products there.
