Holiday apartment in Mijnsheerenland: Water, History and Islands
Accommodation in Mijnsheerenland
Mijnsheerenland combines a waterside location and local history in an unusual way. It is the only village in the Hoeksche Waard that was not built on a dike, but on the Binnenbedijkte Maas. The Binnenbedijkte Maas shapes the village location, while the church and Hof van Moerkerken provide their own historical points of reference in the village. The Hoeksche Waard remains the broader landscape setting.

Water on the Binnenbedijkte Maas
The Binnenbedijkte Maas Mijnsheerenland bathing area is located on the northern bank of the Binnenbedijkte Maas, south of the village of Mijnsheerenland, and has a sandy beach measuring approximately 60 by 20 metres. For a day of swimming, the sandy beach can be included in the itinerary as a separate section of the waterfront. The sandy beach is part of the village's waterside character.
The Binnenmaas has an important recreational function as bathing water. In addition, the Binnenmaas SUP route has an entry point in Mijnsheerenland. When planning the day, swimming at the sandy beach and starting out on the SUP route can be considered separate water activities.
Local history around the church and Hof
The Laurentiuskerk is a church building dating from 1445. Alongside the Binnenmaas, this adds a structure with a clearly established historical date as another aspect of the village. The year 1445 gives the church a fixed historical point in time.
Frederik van Eeden's novel “Van de koele meren des doods” was written at Hof van Moerkerken. Hof van Moerkerken in Mijnsheerenland also includes a country house dating from the 18th century. The 18th-century country house thus provides a different historical reference point from the Laurentiuskerk, which dates from 1445.
Windmill by the water and various types of flour
The De Goede Hoop grain mill stands on the banks of the Binnenmaas, in the middle of a residential area. At the mill, the miller sells various types of flour. The sale of various types of flour adds a specific product connection to the mill site.
Castles and museums in the surrounding area
The surroundings of Mijnsheerenland include Kasteel van Rhoon, a castle. The Gemeentemuseum Mr Simon van Gijn, the Belasting & Douane Museum and the Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam are also located nearby; each of these three destinations is a museum. Culture enthusiasts will find both Kasteel van Rhoon as a castle and three museums in the surrounding area. This creates a cultural framework in the vicinity that extends from one castle to three museums.

The surroundings of Mijnsheerenland also include IJsselmonde, Duivelseiland, Eiland van Brienenoord and Tiengemeten; all four are islands.
