If you prefer a longer hike, the Vossenpad forms part of the 12.5-kilometre Boerenwandeling through Buijtenland van Rhoon. The route along the dikes was opened by farmers so that visitors can experience the polder landscape in a special way.

The combination of the metro and walking trails also makes it easier to get your bearings in the excursion area. The “Langs de grienden” walking route starts at Rhoon metro station and leads through the Rhoonse Grienden and Klein Profijt. From the Groene Halte at Rhoon metro station, six walking trails in the surrounding nature and recreation areas can be reached directly. Buijtenland van Rhoon can be reached from the Rhoon metro stop; from there, the remaining journey takes 30 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by bicycle.

Nature Trails with Different Conditions

Kasteelgaarde Rhoon is partially accessible with a pushchair or wheelchair. The paths around the castle and in De Huijters are semi-paved. In the Rhoonse Grienden, the semi-paved paths are reasonably easy to navigate with wheelchairs and pushchairs in dry weather. Klein Profijt, on the other hand, is not accessible to wheelchairs. For an extended cycling tour, take the 22.5-kilometre Buijtenroute through Buijtenland van Rhoon. A distinctive landmark is the landscape painting at Driepolderpunt. It stands at a viewpoint where the Zegenpolder, Molenpolder and Portlandpolder meet. At the intersection of Kleidijk and Molendijk, the façade stone of the former De Meijlle school also commemorates the school and its significance for the village; it is located near the place where the school building stood for many years.

The “Lekker naar Buijten!” lessons are designed for primary school children in years 3 to 8. Topics include trees, birds in the grienden, philosophy and bees.
