Holiday Apartment in Lemelerveld: Culture, Nature and Family Experiences

Lemelerveld combines a vibrant village history with special experiences for families and landscapes that can be explored along historic routes. Many attractions are concentrated around Kroonplein, while other destinations are located in the surrounding area or farther afield in the region.

Family Experiences in the Countryside

The Natuurlijk Heidepark climbing forest has four different courses with obstacles, as well as a zip line over the swimming lake. The Kabouterpad at Natuurlijk Heidepark is designed as a forest scavenger hunt: children look for gnomes and complete tasks along the way. The route is located in the natural surroundings of Lemelerveld in Overijssel and is designed for young children up to approximately six years old. This makes it easy to include active and playful outings as a distinct focus when planning your trip.

Kroonplein: Art, Culture and Walking Tours

Kroonplein was created in 1995 together with the work of art “Romeo en Julia”. The bronze sculpture, which is more than three metres high, was unveiled in the square on 4 October 1996. Kroonplein is also home to the De Mozaïek Kulturhus. It was opened on 9 June 2004 by Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet and was one of the first Kulturhus centres in the Netherlands.

From here, Lemelerveld can be explored along two historic routes of different lengths. The “Historisch ommetje Lemelerveld” historic walking tour is approximately 5 kilometres long, starts and ends at Kroonplein, and passes 20 recognisable sites and objects from the more recent history of the village. The historic cycling route around Lemelerveld is approximately 20 kilometres long and also starts and ends at Kroonplein. The different route lengths allow you to choose a suitable way to explore the area for each day of your trip.

Memorials and Village History

The war memorial in Lemelerveld consists of a boulder set on brick paving. The boulder bears a circular plaque depicting a collapsed man. The memorial commemorates the Second World War and all fellow citizens who lost their lives fighting the occupying forces.

The former course of the Overijssels Kanaal is also part of the village’s history: the canal once ran right through Lemelerveld and divided the village into two parts. The rollepaalen along the canal are remnants of the system used to tow sailing ships with the help of a towline. The work of art “Tolplaats” by landscape artist Ben Raaijman connects Lemelerveld with the history of the Overijssels Kanaal. The sugar factory was the first company to establish itself in the village of Lemelerveld.

Oude Twentseweg 48 in Lemelerveld is one of the municipal monuments. The former church building “'t Hofje van Buisman”, built in 1906, can be used as an exhibition space. Its name honours Pastor Buisman and his wife, who helped many families in Lemelerveld escape extreme poverty at the end of the 19th century.

Destinations in the Surrounding Area

The area around Lemelerveld is home to Rechteren Castle, Hessum Castle, the Archemerberg, the Luttenberg, Boswachterij Haarle woodland and the Eelerberg. Further afield in the region, you will also find Vosbergen Castle and the Dominican Monastery.
