Loosdrecht combines a distinctive waterscape with nature-rich areas and prominent traces of history. The five Loosdrechtse Plassen are interconnected, creating a water sports area. The Drecht is a very old river dating from before peat extraction began. Its eastern section runs through an untouched stretch of peat woodland and also forms the drainage system of the Ster van Loosdrecht. Narrow, fan-shaped ditches characterize this area, which is particularly valuable from a cultural and historical perspective. If you choose a holiday apartment in Loosdrecht, you can focus your stay on water, nature or history.
Holiday apartment in Loosdrecht between water and nature
Large parts of the Vuntus are reserved for nature and are preserved and managed by Natuurmonumenten. Motorboats are prohibited in the quiet part of the Vuntus. The Vuntus canoe route runs through this landscape. It passes through a special, irregular landscape of legakkers and petgaten, as well as extensive areas of water lilies and yellow water lilies. The signposted route from Natuurmonumenten takes about two hours. Vuntusstrand is a small beach on the Vuntusplas in the middle of the Oud-Loosdrechtsedijk.
Exploring by ferry and on a sightseeing cruise
De Fietsboot is a hop-on hop-off ferry service from Porseleinhaven via Markus Pos island to the De Strook recreational beach. The service is also accessible to pedestrians and people using wheelchairs or mobility scooters. In addition, Rederij Loosdrecht offers sightseeing cruises on the Vecht and the Loosdrechtse Plassen all year round. This makes it possible to experience the waterscape in different ways.
Church history in Nieuw-Loosdrecht
Sijpekerk in Nieuw-Loosdrecht was built between approximately 1400 and 1450, replacing a smaller chapel. Its present form differs little from its form in the mid-15th century. The old baptismal font of Sijpekerk is already mentioned in the foundation charter of 1400. The church is used for exhibitions as part of the open church program. This means the site combines medieval architectural history with a cultural program that can still be experienced today.
Porcelain, garden and craftsmanship
The “Erfgoed en Ambacht 2026” program combines a guided tour of Kasteel-Museum Sypesteyn and its historic garden with a ceramics workshop in Linda Kunst’s studios at “De Porseleinfabriek” in Oud-Loosdrecht. The history of this name also leads back into the past: in 1774, Joannes de Mol, a pastor in Oud-Loosdrecht, began working on a porcelain factory in the garden house behind his parsonage. For days focused on culture, this brings together a museum, garden and craftsmanship in one shared experience.
Choosing your accommodation according to the focus of your holiday
When choosing your accommodation in Loosdrecht, you can use your preferred daily rhythm as a guide. Water experiences, nature observation and historical discoveries each add their own accents, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one type of stay. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Loosdrecht, it is therefore worth choosing the excursions that should shape your holiday: canoeing and the lakeside landscape, ferry service and sightseeing cruise, beach and tranquil nature, or Sijpekerk, museum and ceramics workshop.
