The Historische Hoek in the harbour of Den Oever comprises three historic ships: the Wieringer Skuutje and the Wieringer Aaken WR173 and WR4. The Peilschaalhuisje, built in 1919 and designated as a Rijksmonument, also stands at the Historische Hoek in the fishing harbour. The harbour of Den Oever is both a fishing harbour and a leisure harbour.

The Stevinsluis near Den Oever is used by commercial and recreational shipping to reach the Wadden Sea and return from there. The Afsluitdijk is a significant example of Dutch hydraulic engineering and adds an impressive testimony to landscape design to the area's maritime history. Short boat trips in and around the harbour are offered every Saturday morning in July and August on the historic heritage vessels WR4 or WR60.

History between the mill, lighthouse and casemates

De Hoop is a grain mill in Den Oever and can currently mill grain on a voluntary basis. The lighthouse of Den Oever was built in 1885 and moved from Westerland to Den Oever after the land reclamation. It has been a Rijksmonument since 1998. Together with the ships at the Historische Hoek, it shows different aspects of the local connection between work, water and technology.

The Stelling near Den Oever includes around 13 casemates around the Stevinsluizen. The Stelling was preserved as part of the defensive installations built on both sides of the Afsluitdijk during the war. The Mobilisatiecomplex Den Oever comprises four warehouses built in 1937, which were used as magazines for the Stelling Den Oever. The Michaëlskerk in Oosterland also reaches far back into history: it dates from the early 12th century and formerly served as a refuge for people and livestock during floods.

Wadden Sea, paddling route and seasonal experiences

The Waddenbelevingspunt in Den Oever is a viewing point over the Wadden Sea. It is located approximately 500 metres from the car park at Vissershaven and can only be reached on foot. The site is also suitable for stargazing, as it lies in one of the darkest places in the Netherlands. The tourist information centre of Hollands Kroon is located in the Blue Food Markthal.

A 9 km-long boating route for canoes, kayaks and SUP boards runs along the Amstelmeerkanaal between Den Oever and De Haukes. Along the route there are several jetties where paddlers can moor for a short break. During the summer months, seal-watching tours to the Wadden Sea depart from the harbour of Den Oever.

The annual Flora- en Visserijdagen combine the fishing tradition with a colourful flower and plant show. The programme includes demonstrations of traditional fishing techniques, an extensive flora exhibition and numerous activities for the whole family.
