Schagerbrug combines expansive polder landscapes with sea air, dunes and a nearby beach. The surrounding area is ideal for cycling and hiking tours while also offering opportunities for varied days on holiday: around Schagerbrug, you can surf on the North Sea as well as go horseback riding through the dunes. Those who choose a holiday apartment in Schagerbrug therefore find a place where nature experiences, activities on the water and historical discoveries can be combined.

Exploring polders, paths and waterways

Cyclists can access Schagerbrug via the cycle junction network at junction 35. The national hiking network is also present: the village is connected at starting point 04. The 126-kilometre Westfriese Omringdijk Route offers a notable option for longer tours. It passes through Schagerbrug and is fully signposted in both directions. The different route lengths and types of paths make it possible to adapt your plans to the day you want to spend on holiday, without cycling and hiking tours having to feel the same.

The Grote Sloot offers another perspective on the surrounding area. It can be reached by boat via the Stolpen-Kolhorn Canal; very low boats can also reach it via the Noordhollands Kanaal at Zijpersluis. At junction 17, the Grote Sloot is also connected to the national network of boating routes for sloops. Landing stages have recently been built for this purpose. The waterway runs from north to south through the Zijperpolder; Burgerbrug, Sint Maartensbrug and Oudesluis are among the villages located on either side. In summer, the Grote Sloot is also part of an art route.

Historical sights in Schagerbrug

The villagescape and historic buildings also reveal the region’s different facets. The 18th-century Zijper Molen O-N stands in Schagerbrug. Schagerbrug is also home to a Reformed church in the Waterstaat style. Molen D is an octagonal Dutch windmill built in 1839–1840. A restoration carried out in several phases between 1987 and 1989 made Molen D operational for milling again.

History at the Zijper Museum

In its permanent exhibition, the Zijper Museum presents the history of the Zijpe Polder through objects, maps, films and animations. Its collection includes the Niestadt Collection and the Ter Beziens Collection, featuring unique historical photographic material. With an extensive library, numerous digital sources and online visual material, the Zijper Museum also serves as an information centre. In this way, it complements routes through polders and villages with a vivid historical perspective.

The right holiday apartment for your destination

A holiday apartment in Schagerbrug is particularly suitable for your plans if you would like to combine the landscape, the Grote Sloot, the historic windmills and the Zijper Museum in your own personal mix. Families with different interests can therefore weigh up active routes, experiences by the water and quieter museum or cultural moments.
