Discover Lith with its culture, water and trails

Lith combines distinctive buildings, historic paths and experiences on the water. The Zeldenrust windmill, several remarkable churches and the Museum Boat de Schokker give the town a variety of facets. Those looking for a holiday apartment in Lith can therefore plan their stay around culture, cycling, hiking and a boat trip on the Maas.

Churches, a windmill and a remarkable local history

The Kerk aan de Rivier in Lith dates from 1953. The Zeldenrust windmill is older: it was built in 1800 on the old foundations of a windmill that had probably stood there for centuries. The building is a round stone Dutch windmill, also known as a tower mill. It is open to visitors when a blue pennant is flying.

The R.K. St. Lambertuskerk was built in 1900 in the Neo-Gothic style and, together with the cemetery, is a Rijksmonument, a national heritage monument. The Mariakapel was designed by Jan de Jong, an architect of the Bossche School who was born and raised in Lith. Some of the handmade bricks from the Gothic Nederlands Hervormde kerk were used in its construction; this church had been completely destroyed by a V-1 on 14 January 1945.

On the water and through the countryside

The more than 100-year-old Museum Boat de Schokker is a fishing vessel and now serves as a floating museum. An onboard presentation provides information about anchor seine fishing, a craft that supported numerous families at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. During the sailing season, the vessel can be hired exclusively for a group throughout the week, from sunrise until two hours before sunset. A visit can also include a boat trip on the Maas.

Cyclists can follow the 34-kilometre Kerken en Kapelletjes Lith route through the former municipality of Lith. It runs along the Maasdijk and through the polders behind it. The town's history can also be explored on foot: the residential paths in Lith have medieval origins, while some village paths occasionally served as escape routes during flooding of the Beerse Overlaat.
