Holiday apartment in Heeze: discover nature and culture

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Heeze, you will find a place with an unusual number of opportunities to combine days outdoors with cultural discoveries. Excursions and other activities for all ages regularly take place around De Plaetse. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you want to focus on walks, cycling routes, landscape experiences or historical sights. Heeze offers different themes, so not every trip has to look the same.

Strabrechtse Heide and Beuven

Beuven is considered the largest fen lake in the Netherlands. Strabrechtse Heide covers approximately 1,850 hectares and lies north of the village of Heeze. Most of the heathland can be explored on foot. This makes the landscape a defining theme for anyone considering a holiday apartment in Heeze as a base for nature-focused days away. Walks and cycling tours through Strabrechtse Heide start at Natuurpoort De Plaetse; there is also a car park at the Natuurpoort.

The wildlife is also part of the character of the heathland. A herd of more than 350 Kempian heath sheep regularly stays in Heeze. During the experience “Dag op pad met de schaapherder”, visitors can walk with the shepherd, the dogs and a flock of sheep. Alongside exploring the landscape independently, this puts an explicitly guided encounter with traditional sheep farming at the centre.

Cycling and walking routes with their own themes

The Gedichtentafels cycling route is 28 kilometres long and starts at the town hall in Heeze. The Strabrechtse Heide nature cycling route passes Beuven. For walkers, the “Smul het gedicht” route (Heeze, south) passes several poetry panels. The different routes therefore each have their own focus: a set length and a starting point in the town for the cycling route, the fen lake for the nature cycling route, and poems along the way for the walking route.

Another option is stage 06 of the Brabants Vennenpad. After leaving Heeze, it leads through forests and heathland and along the Strijper Aa stream. This specific sequence of paths makes the transition between wooded sections, open heathland and the stream visible. When planning your accommodation, this can help you determine whether you would rather focus on individual circular routes or a stage with changing landscapes.

Castle, church and regional history

Kasteel Heeze consists of the medieval Slot Eymerick and a newer castle dating from the 17th century. Part of Kasteel Heeze can be visited; its 17th-century interior is still largely preserved. The Sint Martinuskerk, built in 1932, contains stained-glass windows depicting the twelve apostles from the former church. In addition, candles are still lit there every day beside the replica of the former image of Saint Job.

The Sint Victor windmill also combines tangible tradition with a specific product. It mills wheat, spelt and rye using wind power and sells the flour to mill visitors and several bakers in the region. Together with Kasteel Heeze and the Sint Martinuskerk, it creates a cultural programme in which architectural history, religious artefacts and craftsmanship are presented side by side.

Events and getting there

During Brabantsedag, 16 parade-float groups with around 2,000 actors make their way through the streets of Heeze. The Brabantsedag theatre parade takes place on the last Sunday in August. Heeze can be reached by train; the railway lines run towards Weert and Eindhoven. These fixed details help you plan a trip around nature, culture or the event date before deciding on a holiday apartment or other accommodation.

Other places to include in your planning are Sterksel and Leende.
