Local history around Molenplein

The Heemkundekring Made-Drimmelen organises guided tours through Made and Drimmelen. The association also shares knowledge of local history through lectures, excursions and exhibitions.

At the centre is Made’s star-shaped road layout. Its focal point is Molenplein, also known as Gaymansplantsoen, where six roads meet. The historically developed square also represents the area’s former milling history: a windmill and a grain mill once stood at Molenplein. Today, it features the „De Molenaar“ statue, a fountain, benches and terraces. These are used by local residents, children and tourists. In this way, former milling references and today’s square design, with its statue, fountain, benches and terraces, come together in the same place.

The „Pools Oorlogsmonument“ commemorates the liberation of Made on 4 October 1944 and bears the names of 42 war victims from Made and Drimmelen. The monument also commemorates the involvement of the 1st Polish Armoured Division in the liberation of the region.

„Oos Jaas“, a symbol of the Mayenèrs, is part of the local tradition. The five-metre-high enlarged figure is carried each year in both the children’s parade and the main carnival parade. The bronze statue „Oos Jans“ depicts Johanna van der Steen-van Zwol, also known as „Oos Jaas“. For many years, she ran a café and was closely connected with the village’s social life.

Hiking, music and special experiences

For exploring on foot, the route „Wandelen door Made en omgeving“ is a good option. It is 13.5 kilometres long, takes around 3 hours and 23 minutes, and explores Made on foot. With an approximate duration of 3 hours and 23 minutes, the route is designed as a dedicated time block for a day in Made.

The „Top 100 Made Live“ provides musical highlights. The live rock event lasts eleven hours, during which 100 rock songs are performed by six regional cover bands from West and Central Brabant. At eleven hours, it is designed as a long music event in Made. The eleven hours take up a substantial part of the respective day in total.

At Alpaca Break, you can reserve tables via the website. There, visitors enjoy a high tea or an extensive lunch among alpacas and can feed the animals. The experience therefore combines a meal with feeding the animals.
