Landgoed De Hoevens also reaches far back into history: the estate is connected with the donation of an allodial estate by the Lord of Breda to Tongerlo Abbey in 1204. In 1213, this estate was referred to as “hof van het nieuwe land”. The monumental farms Grote Hoef and Nieuwelandse hoef at De Hoevens are privately owned and cannot be visited. However, Nieuwelandse hoef can be seen clearly from the public road.

The present-day form of Boerendag has existed since 1974. The event includes a market, nostalgic activities centred on rural life and a vintage vehicle show. This regional event thus complements the permanently visible traces of the area’s history.

For longer cycle tours, ’t Bels Lijntje is a 30-kilometre cycle path following the route of the former railway line between Turnhout and Tilburg. The cycle path crosses the Dutch-Belgian border nine times, adding a cross-border element to excursion planning.
