Putten is surrounded by heathlands, forests, marginal lakes and polders. The diverse natural landscapes in Putten and the surrounding area provide a varied backdrop for extensive cycling and hiking. Open polders and dense stretches of forest alternate noticeably, while the marginal lakes offer another connection to the water. This means that when exploring Putten, open and enclosed landscapes are just as close together as nature trails and views of the water.

Hiking routes through forests, heathlands and farmland

There are numerous hiking routes in Putten and the surrounding area, including forest trails and clog paths. One particularly varied route is the 8-kilometre Oldenallerpad. It leads through castle woodland, across farmland, along hedgerows and over heathland. On a single route, wooded sections, open landscapes and historic cultural landscapes therefore alternate with one another. The length of eight kilometres can be taken into account as a fixed distance when planning a hike. Anyone wishing to combine different types of landscape on a hike will find a specific route for this in the Oldenallerpad. The hedgerows and heathlands create a different atmosphere from the castle woodland and farmland.

The Putterbos hiking route also leads through the Speulderbos in the Veluwe. This woodland is associated with a rich cultural history, ancient beech trees, burial mounds, as well as larches, oaks and Douglas firs. The Veluws Verleden hiking route leads through forests and heathlands and passes several remains from prehistoric times. Putterbos and Veluws Verleden differ in their historical associations: here, burial mounds and cultural history are found in the forest, while there, prehistoric remains can be seen along the route.

Cycling and nature by the water

When cycling in Putten and the surrounding area, the routes pass through extensive polder areas or varied forests. The contrast between open polders and dense stretches of forest shapes the changing landscape in Putten. As a result, the cycling tours have a different rhythm of landscapes from the routes through forests, heathlands and farmland.

Pluktuin het Platteland offers a different way to experience the area: visitors can harvest their own vegetables and fruit and pick flowers there. Harvesting vegetables and fruit and picking flowers add a hands-on activity to the daily routine.

Castle, views and special attractions

A castle dating from 1655 stands on the Oldenaller estate. The castle at Landgoed Oldenaller is not open to visitors inside, but it can be admired from the outside.

Bosbad Putten has an outdoor swimming pool with a slide and diving boards. The Bostoren Schovenhorst is 40 metres high and has 235 steps. The 235 steps provide a fixed benchmark when planning the climb up the Bostoren Schovenhorst. From the Bostoren Schovenhorst, you can look out over Amersfoort, the Veluwe and the wind turbines in the polder.
