Vragender is a place for trips that bring nature, history and activity together. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Vragender, you can plan your stay around very different experiences: the living raised bog, traces of former chapels, an operating grain mill, or routes for walkers and cyclists.

Moorland and Chapel Grounds

Together with the adjacent Meddosche Veen, Corlese Veen and Korenburgerveen bog areas, Vragenderveen forms one of the few remaining living raised bog areas in the Netherlands. Access to Vragenderveen is only possible under the guidance of expert guides. This gives the landscape a clear framework for planning a visit, linked to guided access.

On the site of the former Sint Jacobskapel, paths, the stone outline of the original chapel, a bed of stinzen plants and new information boards have been created. The redesign was completed in 2024. The Sint Jacobskapel itself has not been used since 1650 and fell into ruin. Another historical trace is the surviving deed of foundation dated 23 April 1444. It records that Herman Stemerdink transferred four parcels of land near the Leeferinck estate to the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kapel for the construction of a chapel.

Mill and Village Character

De Vier Winden is a grain mill that is still in operation and a Rijksmonument in Vragender. Together with the Sint-Antonius van Paduakerk, which is a landmark in Vragender, it shapes the cultural character of the village. This creates a destination where landscape and distinctive buildings can be combined in a varied day plan, without limiting your stay to just one type of experience.

Walking and Cycling

The Tradvatpad is a sporty walking and exercise trail of around five kilometres, with various exercises along the way. Those who prefer active days will find this offers a distinct focus alongside the moorland and cultural themes. TOP Beneman is starting point 36 of the local walking network; routes can be put together using the Achterhoek walking route planner.

From TOP Beneman, cycling junctions 38, 41, 80 and 86, as well as various themed cycling routes, can be reached. Vragender is also located on the Karakteristieke Kerkdorpen rondom Lichtenvoorde cycling route. When looking for a holiday apartment in Vragender, these different paths and routes can be a useful starting point if you prefer to shape your days around activity, culture or changing themes.

Parks and Castles in the Surrounding Area

The immediate surroundings also add further destinations to the village character. ’t Klooster is a park in the vicinity of Vragender. Marveld, Wolboom and ’t Loohuis are parks in the area around Vragender. The wider regional area contains several castles: Kasteel Wisch, Huize Onstein and Burg Anholt are each classified there as castles. Marhulsen is a castle in the vicinity of Vragender.

If your travel group has different interests, when choosing a holiday apartment in Vragender you can weigh up the moorland area, the chapel grounds, the paths starting at TOP Beneman, the cycling route, and the regional park and castle destinations. This leaves room for sporting activities, historical discoveries and more peaceful impressions of the landscape, without requiring you to limit your trip to just one purpose.
