Experience the Liphústerheide by bicycle

The Liphústerheide is an extensive heathland area between the Alddjip and the Bûtewei, below Lippenhuizen. From Lippenhuizen or Beetsterzwaag, the Liphústerheide can only be reached by bicycle via a cycle path that runs through the heathland. The cycle path passes through the heathland itself; for this destination, bringing a bicycle is an essential part of the planning. In contrast, the Turf Route section through the cultural landscape can also be explored on foot. The fact that the heathland can only be reached by bicycle makes the cycle path an integral part of a tour to the heathland.

Walking, viewpoints and the water route

Anyone wishing to get to know Lippenhuizen on foot can start at the corner of De Buorren and Buorsterwyk in the centre of Lippenhuizen. The “Lippenhuizen and Koningsdiep beekdal” walking route starts there. The Skarrekieker viewpoint is located along this walking route. For a walk, the starting point can be set at this corner in the centre.

The Turf Route offers a different way to get around. It is a tourist water route through Southeast Friesland, connecting Lippenhuizen with Hemrik, Gorredijk and Terwispel. The route therefore connects the village with several places along this Southeast Frisian water route. For travel planning, it takes its place alongside the walk in the centre and the bicycle tour to the heathland.

Water tower and Piter Church

The water tower at De Buorren 149 in Lippenhuizen has been a Rijksmonument since 14 September 1999. It has an octagonal casing around the water tank with a copper roof. The copper roof closes off the casing at the top. For those interested in culture, this is a specific building with protected status and a clearly defined architectural form.

Piter Church is one of seven Sint-Piter churches in Friesland. Cultural activities are held regularly at Piter Church. In addition, Piter Church is protected as a historic monument and is designated as Rijksmonument No. 31859.
