If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Feinsum, you can weigh up culture, outdoor activities and experiences on the water when choosing your destination. The highlights range from Sint-Vituskerk and the Feinsumerfeart to It Spoardok harbour and today’s cycle paths.

Church, bell and mill

Sint-Vituskerk is a brick-built hall church dating from the 13th century. Its choir has a straight end, while the west tower has a saddleback roof. The church also contains a bell dating from 1477. Local history also includes the Slagdijkster molen / Slachdykster Mûne, located in Finkum (Feinsum). These local landmarks therefore combine church architecture, a bell and a mill site, each with different historical points of focus.

Feinsum by the water

The Feinsumerfeart is part of the Northern Frisian Elfstedentocht route. Since 2013, this route has been navigable by boats with a draught of up to 1.30 metres and a maximum clearance height of 2.40 metres. These dimensions are therefore part of the practical aspects of the waterway and can be taken into account when planning a boat trip. For those interested in the water, the location is thus connected to a route whose use is defined by specific technical details.

Harbour and winter water tradition

The Trijehoek stands at the entrance to Feinsum harbour. In the 20th century, it was used to clear the Feinsumer Feart of snow for ice skating when there was heavy ice. Its former purpose clearly contrasts with the Feinsumer Feart’s integration into a boating route. At the harbour entrance, a tangible reminder of winter history meets the waterway.

It Spoardok for active and relaxing days

It Spoardok is a large play and recreation area in the centre of Feinsum. The small, quiet and sheltered It Spoardok marina in Feinsum welcomes passing visitors; you can also fish and swim there. The play and recreation area and the marina offer different focal points: here, the emphasis is on spending time on land, while fishing and swimming define the connection with the water.

Cycle paths recalling the railway

The former railway line through Feinsum is now a cycle path between Feinsum and Hijum. Hans Jouta’s artwork “Tiidreizgje” commemorates the period when trains ran through Feinsum. In addition, a historic cycling route of approximately 40 km has been developed along the information boards about the States; it can also be cycled in sections. The cycle path therefore has a clear connection with the former railway link between two locations. The States route runs along historic information boards and can be planned both by its approximate length and by individual sections. When choosing a route, the focus can therefore be either on the connection between Feinsum and Hijum or on following the States information boards.
