The “Jeneverbesroute Sleenerzand” hiking route passes through Sleenerzand in southeastern Drenthe. The “Archeologie Sleenerzand” hiking route follows traces of the past in Sleenerzand. On this route, dogs may run free under control; on a short section with grazing animals, they must be kept on a leash.

The Pieterpad also offers clearly described guidance: it passes 500 metres from Schoonoord. This 24-kilometre hiking trail runs from Schoonloo to Sleen.
