Holiday apartment in Drouwenermond – canal village, farmhouses and festivals

Drouwenermond is a long, stretched-out canal village between Gasselternijveenschemond and Nieuw-Buinen. Around 1823, the first residents settled along the Zuiderdiep. The canal was partly filled in and later partly reopened. The location between the two neighboring villages remains the spatial framework of the canal village.

Drouwenermond is still home to some remarkable peat-colony farmhouses. The Krimpen farmhouses have truncated gable ends and small windows in the attic. The small Protestant church has a roof similar to those of the farmhouses and a white-painted roof turret; part of its façade is covered in white plaster. Zeeland traces at the Zeelandstreekje

The Zeelandstreekje and the ZeeuwMeeuw sculpture commemorate four families from Westkapelle in Zeeland who settled there in 1884. The sculpture dates from 1987 and was created by Jef Depassé Huisman. The sculpture was therefore created significantly later than the families’ settlement in 1884.

Knoesterbos between woodland and meadow

Knoesterbos is a woodland area next to a meadow in Drouwenermond, at the Zeelandstreekje. It was established in 1985/1986. For a walk along the Zeelandstreekje, the woodland area beside the meadow offers a tangible connection with nature. At the Zeelandstreekje, Drouwenermond’s landscape character can be observed in the combination of woodland and the adjacent meadow.

Boerenrock, Trekkertrek and Easter bonfires

The Boerenrock Festival takes place at the Boerenrock festival grounds in Drouwenermond. Trekkertrek includes tractor pulling competitions in various classes. The Brigade der Gulle Bourgondiër provides catering. At Trekkertrek, the tractor pulling competitions in various classes form part of the Boerenrock program.

Gruwelijk Fikkie Stoken is a two-day tent festival held over the Easter weekend at the Boerenrock grounds on the Verbindingsweg between Drouwenermond and Drouwenerveen. Watching the Easter bonfire is free of charge. The Easter weekend thus combines the tent festival with free viewing of the Easter bonfire. The Verbindingsweg provides the specific road connection for the festival grounds between Drouwenermond and Drouwenerveen.

Klamping campsite is within walking distance of the Boerenrock festival grounds. For day visitors to the Boerenrock Festival, parking is provided next to the festival grounds on the Verbindingsweg. At the entrance to the road, there is a generously sized car park for all visitors enjoying recreational activities at Visvijver Drouwenermond and in the surrounding area. Parking next to the Boerenrock grounds is therefore intended for day visitors, while the car park at Visvijver is for all recreational visitors.
