Ivancea brings together several historical perspectives: the Balioz Manor House, a 19th-century architectural monument; its park, a monument of landscape architecture; and a church built in 1789. Archaeological settlement remains, including charred house remains and Eneolithic objects, add to this architectural history. At the Ivancea Sub Pădure site, a cultural attribution and traces of iron smelting offer further insights. A planned forest trail between Rîșcova and Ivancea adds a different dimension. You can therefore shape your travel plans around architectural history, archaeology and the intended use of the forest trail.

Manor House, Park and Architectural History

The Balioz Manor House in Ivancea is an architectural monument from the 19th century. Construction began in 1852 and was completed in 1873—just over two decades passed between the start and the finish. The manor house park is also a monument of landscape architecture. The house and park draw attention to two distinct aspects of the place: its architectural history and its designed landscape.

The church in Ivancea was built in 1789, well before construction of the manor house began. These dates place the two buildings in a sequence spanning the 18th and 19th centuries and provide a chronological framework for Ivancea’s architectural history.

In 1984, the Museum of Moldovan Folk Crafts opened in the manor house as a branch of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. The Balioz Manor House is a branch of this national museum. Alongside its architectural history, the manor house is therefore also connected with Ivancea’s museum history.

Archaeological Traces in Ivancea

Ivancea has archaeological settlement remains, including charred house remains and objects typical of the Eneolithic period, dating from the 4th to the 3rd millennium BC. The charred house remains and objects bring this early settlement history to life: the focus is not only on its chronology, but also on structural remains and finds.

The Ivancea Sub Pădure archaeological site belongs to the Poienești-Lucășeuca culture. Seven shaft furnaces for smelting iron ore have also been identified at the site. Its cultural attribution and evidence of iron smelting give this site a different archaeological focus from the Eneolithic settlement remains.
