Discover Żurrieq: Churches, Windmill and Blue Grotto

Żurrieq offers a varied journey through sacred art, surprising historical sites and the coastal landscape around Wied iż-Żurrieq. Churches and chapels as a cultural focus

An important point of interest is the parish church of St Catherine of Alexandria in Żurrieq. The present church was built between 1634 and 1659 according to plans by the architect Lorenzo Gafà. Inside are around six paintings by the Italian painter Mattia Preti. When planning, note that the Blue Grotto Boat Service suspends operations when southerly winds cause very rough seas. Bus route 201 provides a connection from Wied iż-Żurrieq and runs via Luqa and the airport, Kirkop, Żurrieq, Qrendi, Siġġiewi, Dingli and Rabat. This connection can play a practical role when putting together your excursions.
