Cultural history in the town of Ilinden

The “Ilinden” House of Culture is home to the municipal library and the office of the folk song and dance ensemble “Ansambl za narodni pesni i igri Ilinden”. At the entrance, a memorial plaque commemorates those from the settlement of Ilinden who fell in the National Liberation War and Revolution of 1941 to 1945. The plaque was restored in 2022; its dedication links the town to a clearly defined chapter of history.

The cultural events of 2026 also offer specific insights. The Ilinden Municipality Cultural Days took place from 11 to 13 May at the “Ilinden” House of Culture; this was the 27th literary event. The opening featured the children’s theatre play “Raspeana turli tava”. On 28 May, the “Sv. Troica” folklore festival was held in the same venue. The programme included music, traditional dances and performances by folklore groups from North Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Chile, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina. Active days in Ilinden Municipality

The municipality offers specific routes for outdoor exercise. A five-kilometre fitness trail runs from Ajvatovci to Buchinci and is intended for walks, recreation and mountain biking. A longer range of routes was available in April 2026 at the traditional sports and leisure event “Expedition through the Heart of Ilinden”, which was held again. The off-road cycle tour was about 40 kilometres long and ran through Ajvatovci, Buchinci, Mrashevci, Deljadrovci, Miladinovci, Bujkovci and Bunardzik before returning to Ajvatovci. Another tour covered 15 kilometres on foot from Ajvatovci via Buchinci and back to Ajvatovci, and included a visit to Buchinsko Lake. This makes it possible to choose between a five-kilometre trail, a 15-kilometre hike and a roughly 40-kilometre cycle tour when planning together.

In Buchinci, Buchinsko Lake is a sports and recreation spot with areas for resting, sports, relaxation and socialising outdoors. The lake has a 60-metre walking path and a dedicated fishing platform. These destinations offer a different focus from the longer routes, combining time outdoors with relaxation, a short walk or a fishing platform.
