Valle – Culture, Lake and Historical Discoveries
Accommodation in Valle
Valle combines cultural history with experiences in nature, offering a range of possibilities for a trip. You can explore the theatrical work of the Amtmanis family, discover historical traces of the former Valle estate, spend time at Lake Valle, or observe and feed fallow deer at Vallbrieži Fallow Deer Park. When choosing a holiday apartment in Valle, it is therefore particularly interesting to consider which themes should shape your stay.
Theatre History and Cultural Memories
The permanent exhibition at the Aktieru Amtmaņu Museum presents the family of the Amtmanis brothers, their lives and their work in the art of theatre. Another place of remembrance is the birthplace of the Amtmanis brothers, “Zvanītāju Bukas”. A museum was opened there on 5 August 1985. The cultural tradition also includes the Alfreda Amtmaņa-Briedīša Prize, which is awarded every two years on 5 August.
These sites give Valle a distinct cultural profile. Travellers interested in acting, regional biographies and the connection between a place and its theatre history can take this focus into account when planning their trip. The “izi.travel” app also allows you to listen to stories about Valle parish via an audio guide.
Church, Art and Historical Traces
Valle’s present-day Evangelical Lutheran church was built between 1781 and 1785. The restored church combines a Neo-Romanesque style with modern accents. Its altarpiece depicts the Ascension of Christ and was painted by Ģirts Balodis and Roberts Vužis. The environmental art object “Kardiogramma plus” can be viewed next to the church.
The area’s older history is also present in the landscape. Valle was referred to as Wallhof on maps from the 16th century. The Valles Valnis was a hydraulic defensive structure built on the Valle estate at the end of the 16th century. The defensive embankment was 6 metres wide at its base. One section is visible parallel to the Valle–Jaunjelgava road, from “Jaunbruntāli” towards the centre of the former Valle estate. This is a historical section of the structure, not a present-day defensive facility.
Lake, Fishing and Fallow Deer Park
Lake Valle is ideal for quieter moments. It covers 11 hectares, and there is a recreation area on its shore. Fishing is possible there for a fee. Fishing is also available at the “Valle” recreation complex. Those who wish to include water and nature in their stay can plan these options as a separate excursion focus.
Another specific experience awaits you in Valle parish at “Vallbrieži” Fallow Deer Park. Visitors can explore the park and feed the fallow deer oats and apples. The fallow deer park is open to visitors. For families, this visit can provide a vivid complement to the cultural themes, while Lake Valle offers space for a different pace of the day.
Which Type of Stay Suits Your Plans?
Valle is suitable for travellers who do not want to limit culture and nature to a single holiday theme. If you are particularly interested in theatre history and sacred art, the Amtmanis Museum, the history of “Zvanītāju Bukas” and the Evangelical Lutheran church can take centre stage. Those who prefer historical traces in the landscape can include the Valles Valnis and its visible remains in their plans. For fishing, water and a break for relaxation, Lake Valle offers a focus of its own; the fallow deer park adds a direct encounter with animals to the programme.
A holiday apartment in Valle can therefore be selected according to the desired mix of culture, nature and activities. When planning your trip, consider which of these themes are most important to you, and use Valle as a base for a stay that brings together several sides of the area.
