Church, Advent Wreath and Living Traditions

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Skulte was built between 1754 and 1757. Its remarkable interior includes a nationally significant altar, a pulpit with eight 18th-century paintings, as well as portals and a door ensemble from the 18th century. The Great Advent Wreath of Skulte represents a special connection between faith, craftsmanship and community. It has been made since 2011. On the day before the beginning of Advent, the Skulte LELB congregation holds a workday involving the congregation, the local population and guests of Skultes pagasts. Music is also part of the area’s cultural character: the mixed choir “Skulte” is the oldest choir in Skultes pagasts and is considered the second-oldest choir in Latvia.

Manor Park and Coastal Landscape

A 360 m-long walking path runs through the oak avenues of Skulte Manor Park. All of the notable mature trees there are marked with information boards. This allows the walk to be combined with closer observation, rather than simply passing through the park. The path therefore combines exercise with a closer engagement with the park landscape.

Kadiķkalni is another of the area’s landscape features. The area stretches along a narrow coastal strip as a botanical nature reserve. Lielais Lauču dižakmens has been a natural monument since 2001. Skultes pagasts has a stony seacoast, appealing to a different travel preference than the cultural and historical tour through the church and park.
