Between the Adige, vineyards and peach orchards

Bussolengo is situated on a plateau above the course of the Adige River. The surrounding area is gently hilly and characterised by peach orchards and vineyards; olive groves and cypress groves are also frequently found.

Churches and traces of a long history

The oldest archaeologically documented settlement in the area of Bussolengo dates back to the Middle Bronze Age, approximately 3,500 years ago. The Chiesa di San Salvar houses a square stele about one metre high with a Roman inscription. The church is traditionally regarded as the oldest pieve and first parish church in Bussolengo.

The Chiesa di San Valentino also preserves significant art-historical evidence: two fresco cycles from the first half of the 15th century depict stories of Saint Valentine. Villa Spinola dates from the 15th century and stands on a hill overlooking the valleys and mountains of Valpolicella. There is no admission fee for the villa; opening hours are announced for events or provided upon request by the municipal offices.

The Chiostro Francescano is a 16th-century cloister that belonged to a Franciscan monastery complex. It is one of the few surviving examples of monastic architecture in the Verona area and has 45 frescoed lunettes depicting the life and miracles of Saint Francis. In the Chiesa di San Rocco, more than 30 fresco panels illustrate an important phase of Veronese painting from the late 15th century to the first decades of the 16th century.

Nature experiences and special dates

Parco Natura Viva is dedicated to the conservation and protection of endangered species. Visitors can walk through habitats in the green oak forest and discover 1,500 animals from 200 species.

The scheduled events include the Fiera di San Valentino in Bussolengo. It returned in 2026 for its 315th edition and took place from 12 to 16 February 2026. The Villaggio di Natale Flover was planned for the period from 7 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. The outdoor area was set to include, among other things, an ice rink, the Flover Express train, rides for children, Santa Claus's house and a large Christmas tree.

Buildings, tours and getting oriented

The Capitello De le Quatro Gambe is an unspecified Roman artefact at the entrance to Bussolengo from the direction of Verona. The Centrale Idroelettrica di Bussolengo is an industrial architecture building from the 1940s. As part of the Pagus Pictus project, it offers a guided educational tour of the operations centre, available only by prior reservation.

By car, Bussolengo can be reached via the A4, Sommacampagna exit. At the roundabout, take the third exit towards Bussolengo and continue for approximately 6 kilometres. Alternatively, the A22 leads via the Verona Nord exit and then along the Tangenziale towards Bussolengo; approximately 4 kilometres remain to the relevant exit. Verona Porta Nuova railway station is about 12 kilometres from Bussolengo. In front of the station, visitors can continue by bus or taxi.
