Churches and History in Sarmeola

The Church of San Fidenzio is documented as a chapel as early as 1130. The present-day Church of San Fidenzio was officially consecrated on 20 September 1969. Its features include bronze doors by Sergio Rodella. The Church of Maria Madre della Provvidenza is also one of the religious attractions in Sarmeola. It was elevated to the status of a diocesan shrine on 22 December 2024. Villa Vanna was one of the residences of the Arrigoni Degli Oddi family. Sarmeola therefore brings together sacred history and the history of a secular residence.

Market, Parish Festival and Street Art

The Sarmeola market takes place on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Viale Po. In September, a street performers’ festival also takes place at Viale Po. The annual parish festival of San Fidenzio in Sarmeola involves around 200 people in its organisation each year. The approximately 200 people refer to the organisation of the festival, not to the number of visitors. For the 2024 edition of the Spiccioli festival, the participation of at least seven Italian and international street theatre groups was planned. Viale Po therefore has two different event schedules: the Saturday market and the street art festival in September. The parish festival is a separate annual event in the calendar as the recurring festival of San Fidenzio.

Esapolis, a museum, is located in the surrounding area of Sarmeola. Palazzo Maldura, a palace, Palazzo Liviano, a palace, and Observatory and Museum La Specola, a museum, are also nearby. Bus route 10 runs from Padua towards Sarmeola. There is a bus stop in front of the Opera della Provvidenza. When travelling from Padua, this route direction can be combined with the stop in front of the Opera della Provvidenza.
