The Forra del Lupo is approximately 5 kilometres long and is a trench built by the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War. The route features information panels explaining events from the First World War. In this way, the trail combines with a clearly identifiable historical theme that you can experience directly along the route.

The easy SAT / E104 route connects Serrada with the summit of Monte Finonchio and the Rifugio F.lli Filzi. It follows a convenient unpaved former military road that leads to the 1,589-metre-high mountain summit. The Rifugio F.lli Filzi lies slightly below the summit. On this route, the path initially passes through mixed woodland and then through spruce and larch forest.

The SAT / E137 trail also begins in the village of Cogola, just beyond Serrada’s square.

Forte Dosso delle Somme: history with clear orientation

Forte Dosso delle Somme is an Austro-Hungarian fortress from the First World War (1914–1918). It was built between 1911 and 1913 to control the Borcola Pass on the national border and the Val di Terragnolo below it. Its historical context therefore extends from the period of construction before the First World War into the years of the war.

From Serrada, Forte Dosso delle Somme can be reached on foot via the long trench complex of the Forra del Lupo, via the former military road from the village of Ròccolo or via SAT trail 136. SAT trail 136 branches off at Serrada’s square and reaches the nearby Rifugio Baita Tonda. The fort is an unguarded ruin. The interior cannot be visited or, because of possible dangers, should not be visited.

Futurist art along the village route

The Passeggiata Futurista leads through the lanes and hidden corners of Serrada to murals reproducing works by Fortunato Depero. Its route begins at Serrada’s square behind the church and leads along Via C. Pavese to Maso Filzi. It then continues along Via F. Depero, past Maso Bioncheri, and back to the church and Serrada’s square. This creates a circular walk in which the village paths themselves become the way to access the murals.

The Serrada Futurista summer programme takes place every year in honour of the Futurist painter Fortunato Depero. You therefore encounter the name Depero both on the Passeggiata Futurista and in Serrada’s annual programme of events.

Connections for planning your trip

Serrada is 5 km from Folgaria. The village is served by Trentino Trasporti; in summer, a tourist shuttle from Folgaria is also available. This connection is relevant when choosing accommodation if you do not want to organise your excursion plans solely around the walking routes in the area.
