Verschneid Between Nature and Family Experiences

When choosing a holiday apartment in Verschneid, you can focus on nature, family experiences, hikes and culture. The Köfele Trail is a family experience with various stations for playing, climbing and relaxing. Tschaufer Pond was once an artificially created fishpond and is now protected as a nature conservation area.

Hiking Across the Salten

The hike to Gschnoferstall begins at the Gastrein car park above Verschneid. It follows Trail No. 12, and the hut is reached in about an hour. The route leads across the wide meadows of the Salten high plateau, bordered by larch forests. Gschnoferstall offers typical South Tyrolean dishes to try.

Another hike from Frassineto leads through the well-known larch meadows to Gschnofer Stall, one of the mountain huts on the Salten. From Frassineto, several alpine pastures, mountain huts and surrounding villages can also be reached on foot. Behind Frassineto rises the Salten, a 1,345-metre-high high plateau where numerous winter hikes through the snow are possible.

Trails with Play, Forest and a Return Journey

The Mühlrad Trail leads to the water wheel between Verschneid and Versein. There is a small playground along the Mühlrad Trail, designed to represent an archaeological excavation site. The hike from Mölten to Verschneid follows a forest road through woodland and meadows. This gives you a variety of trail experiences: a destination between two places, a playful element and a route through forest and meadows.

On the hike from Mölten to Verschneid, you can take Bus No. 204 from Verschneid back to Mölten. The different starting points give you several options for planning your day.

Access to Nature at Tschaufer Pond

Tschaufer Pond can be reached via the village centre of Verschneid or the Proher car park. Its former purpose as an artificially created fishpond and its current protected status give the destination a distinctive historical development.

History between Tschaufen, Versein and Frassineto

The route from Terlan to Tschaufen leads through Verschneid. After the bridge, you can park the car in front of the barrier; from there, it is about a 40-minute walk to Tschaufenhaus. In the Middle Ages, Tschaufen was the hunting lodge of the Lords of Maultasch. A burial mound dating from the Migration Period, between 300 and 500 AD, was discovered behind the house in Tschaufen. The little church of St. George stands on a historically significant hill near Versein.

In the centre of Frassineto stands the Church of San Biagio (St. Blaise). It contains the expressive Baroque fresco “The Feast of the Rich Man Epulon” from 1621 and was first mentioned in documents in 1325. According to tradition, the Blessing of St. Blaise is given in Frassineto every year on 3 February. In this way, the culture of Frassineto complements the themes of trails and nature with art, history and an inherited tradition.
