Rilievo Through Festivals and Historical Traces
Rilievo can be discovered through festivals, Sicilian cuisine and historical traces. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Rilievo, you can get to know the area through several interests: shared experiences, regional specialties and the history of Rilievo-Chinisia offer different ways to explore it. Families can incorporate cultural topics and events into their personal holiday plans without limiting themselves to just one type of experience.
Events and Sicilian Cuisine
On June 22, the 9th human table football tournament for mixed teams took place in Piazza Gramsci in Rilievo. The specific date and the distinctive nature of this competition highlight an aspect of local events that differs from historical topics and culinary experiences. The Festival dei Sapori was also held in Rilievo for its second edition. It included cooking shows demonstrating how to prepare the traditional “Pasta cu l’agghia” and “Pasticcini di mandorla”.
The Sagra dell’Anguria adds another culinary highlight: the Sagra dell’Anguria in Rilievo reached its thirteenth edition. It included seven evenings of major shows, live music, cabaret and tastings of local watermelons in Piazza Gramsci.
The Church, Place Names and the History of Chinisia
The church of Rilievo is dedicated to Maria SS. di Trapani, the so-called Madonna of Trapani. It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century on the initiative of the residents of the hamlet. Language also leads into the past: the old place name Chinisia derives from the Arabic terms “kinisiyah” or “kinisah”, meaning “church”. The name Via Tavernelle in Rilievo refers to former places for stopping and taking refreshment.
The Rilievo-Chinisia area was the scene of fierce fighting near Torre Chinisia during the Sicilian Revolution of 1820. In 1224, Chinisia was given as a dowry by Perrone Carissima to the San Francesco convent in Trapani. Torre Chinisia was the last monumental trace of this area. Rocche Draeli is considered one of the sites of Stone Age workshops in the Rilievo-Chinisia area. The local history therefore brings together several periods: Stone Age workshops, the Middle Ages, the Revolution of 1820 and the founding of the church at the beginning of the 20th century.
