Holiday apartment in Lentini – History, sanctuaries and nature

Castellaccio stands on Colle Tirone and is also known as Castrum Vetus. The medieval fortress once protected the town of Lentini. Chiesa Madre Santa Maria la Cava e Sant'Alfio was built in its present form between 1700 and 1750. Santuario dei Tre Santi was built over a well in the early years of the 19th century. According to tradition, the martyrdom of Lentini's three patron saints took place at this well.

Historical traces and religious sites

Carcere dei Tre Santi is also known as Grotta di Re Tertullo. It is a well-preserved example of a prison reused during the Hohenstaufen period. The adjacent hypogea served as burial sites for many martyrs.

During the patron saint festivities, the reliquary bust of San Cirino is carried on the shoulders in a procession through Carcere dei Tre Santi. The bust contains the heart of Sant'Alfio.

Archaeology in the hills of Leontinoi

The hills of Leontinoi, which belong to the present-day municipalities of Lentini and Carlentini, contain archaeological evidence. It documents the history of the area from the Neolithic to the Iron Age.

Municipal Library, Archive and Aula Falcone

The Riccardo da Lentini Municipal Library allows visitors to consult books, law gazettes, newspapers and magazines from various fields on site. The Historical Archive of Lentini makes its organized and inventoried documents available to the public for consultation. It contains 11 collections with documents relating to the history of the city of Lentini.

Aula Falcone is frequently used for meetings with students and initiatives promoting a culture of legality. When studying the city's history, printed materials can be consulted in the library and organized documents can be viewed in the archive.

Biviere e Lago di Lentini has once again become an important natural oasis. It provides a habitat for migratory birds during their stopovers as well as for the breeding of many other species.

Access to Biviere e Lago di Lentini is permitted only with the appropriate authorization. At the same time, Biviere e Lago di Lentini can be seen from trains on the Catania–Siracusa railway line between Lentini Diramazione and Lentini stations.
