Fontane Bianche combines an approximately 1,200-metre-long white sandy beach with freshwater springs that emerge from the seabed beneath the beach. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Fontane Bianche, you can incorporate beach days, nature observation, exercise and historical discoveries into your travel plans here. The seabed slopes gently at the beach and is suitable for children of all ages.
Beach days, water and practical information
In summer, canoes and pedal boats are available at Fontane Bianche beach. Fontane Bianche also has free and paid parking spaces. The beach resorts have ramps for people with disabilities and lifeguards who assist people with disabilities on the beach. These specific beach features may play a role when choosing a holiday apartment if you are bringing together different needs and activity preferences within your travel group.
Traces beneath the water and along the coast
An oar and a ship's cannon were found during some underwater dives in the waters of Fontane Bianche. In the Fontane Bianche–Punta del Corvo area, there are sea caves and remains of vanished caves; prehistoric fauna, including bone fragments from hippopotamuses, as well as a Palaeolithic stone industry, have been found there. The best-known sinkhole lies at the terminal section of the Cavagrande del Cassibile and presumably contributes to feeding the numerous underwater springs along the coast from Fontane Bianche to Lido di Avola.
History in the landscape
Fontane Bianche is associated with a protohistoric and Classical necropolis. Byzantine catacombs are also associated with the area. The historic Tonnara complex of Fontane Bianche comprised a church, accommodation for tax collectors, warehouses, stables for transport animals and several dairy cows, as well as a fishing facility. Contrada Grottazze is topographically part of the Punta del Cane promontory and forms its northern section; burial chambers carved into limestone are located there.
The local rhythm for your holiday apartment
The Mercato del Contadino provides culinary highlights: it takes place every Tuesday from 17:00 to 20:00 from July to September. At Lido Fontane Bianche, hot and cold dishes made with local products are served daily at lunchtime. If you choose a holiday apartment, these regular market hours and the daily lunch offering can complement your daily schedule, so that the beach is not the only focal point.
More aspects for your travel plans
Fontane Bianche railway station has one track for passenger services. Fontane Bianche is also home to a public skate plaza, considered the first public skate plaza in Sicily.
