Nuchis combines sacred buildings, a multifaceted local history and the landscape of the Gallura mountains with a concrete cycling connection. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Nuchis, you can plan your stay around cultural discoveries and active day trips. The various churches and oratories, as well as the route of the Itinerario 39 cycle path, are particularly interesting.

Discover churches and local history

Nuchis developed in the 16th and 17th centuries and took in refugees from coastal towns that had been attacked by Barbary corsairs. The parish church in Nuchis is dedicated to the Holy Spirit, Spirito Santo. As the Chiesa dello Spirito Santo, it preserves a painting by Giovanni Marghinotti from the late 19th century depicting the Descent of the Holy Spirit.

The Sanctuary of Santi Cosma e Damiano is now used as an oratory. It was founded in 1529 after a plague, rebuilt in 1835 and restored in 1945. The building is constructed entirely of granite. Its façade has sloping rooflines and a bell gable. Inside, there is a single-nave layout with a barrel vault divided by five arches; the sanctuary also contains frescoes by Carlo Armanni. It is located in a garden in the landscape of the Gallura mountains.

Other sacred buildings complete the picture of Nuchis. The Church of San Salvatore is built entirely of exposed granite blocks and is located near the edge of the village on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. The Oratorio della Santa Croce has a façade with a bell gable and a single-nave interior divided into two bays by a transverse arch. The Oratory of the Church of Purgatorio was founded in the first half of the 18th century by Giovanni Piga, the rector of Nuchis. The Church of Purgatorio has a gabled façade with a bell gable and a single-nave interior.

Gallura landscape and cycle path

For active days, the Itinerario 39 cycle path provides a clear geographical connection. It passes through Nuchis and then branches off towards Calangianus. In places, it follows the disused Monti–Tempio railway line, most of which has been converted into a cycle path. The Itinerario 39 also passes through the forests of Monte Limbara. Overall, the cycle path runs between Monti/Telti railway station and Tempio Pausania. This allows you to weigh up local history, woodland landscapes and a longer connection between different points when planning your own itinerary.

The right accommodation for your plans

When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home in Nuchis, the main consideration is the focus you want for your stay. If you would like to explore the churches, their granite architecture and the history of the village, your daily interests will differ from those of a plan centred around the Itinerario 39 and the forests of Monte Limbara. You can therefore choose accommodation in Nuchis according to your own rhythm, with room for cultural impressions, active activities and the various facets of the Gallura region.
