Verbania combines natural landscapes, art, remembrance and events on Lake Maggiore. Place of remembrance and memorial in the Parco della Memoria e della Pace
The Parco della Memoria e della Pace is located around the site where the Nazis shot 43 partisans on 20 June 1944. The park also includes a monumental area dedicated to the Resistance. The “Muro” memorial bears the names of more than 1,200 people who lost their lives during the struggle for liberation.
Sacred art and the “Miracle of the Sun”
At Madonna di Campagna, on 25 March and 15 August at around 5 p.m., a ray of sunlight shines through the rose window and illuminates a fresco of the Virgin Mary. This phenomenon is known as the “Miracle of the Sun”. The Basilica di San Vittore contains a fresco by Daniele Ranzoni, works of art from the 15th and 16th centuries, and a 16th-century baptismal font.

Cultural programme and open-air arena on Lake Maggiore
The Centro Eventi Il Maggiore hosts theatre, music, cinema, dance, talks and multimedia performances. The venue also includes an open-air arena by the lake, offering wide views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding landscape. It can accommodate up to 2,000 people. The arena brings these forms of culture to the lakeside.
Fondo Toce: riverscape and combined path
The Fondo Toce nature reserve was established in 1990. It encompasses the final section of the Toce River and part of its floodplain. A scenic combined cycle and walking path connects the nature reserve with the centre of Verbania and the railway station. Consequently, both the cycle and walking path as well as the centre and railway station are relevant to route planning.
Palaces, beaches and a museum around Verbania
The surrounding area of Verbania is home to the Villa San Remigio palace and the Palazzo Flaim palace. The Mausoleo Cadorna memorial is also located there. The Giardini di Villa Taranto garden is likewise nearby. The area around Verbania also has two beaches: Spiaggia del Sasso Cavallazzo and Spiaggia dei Caravalle. They are joined by the historic marble cave Antica cava del marmo di Ornavasso and the Museo dell'Arte del Cappello.
