Churches, art and local history

The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista brings together several historical periods. It was completely rebuilt in 1986 after the previous church, dating from the 16th century, partially collapsed on 4 June 1895. This previous church had in turn been built on the remains of a medieval religious building. The interior paintings of the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista were created by Giovanni Stura in 1892 and belong to the Nazarene art movement.

The Chiesa della Confraternita dello Spirito Santo is considered the only surviving intact building of old Orbassano. Orbassano ad Arte also includes a work inspired by Vincent van Gogh on Via Cervetti. Via Cervetti thus adds another artistic connection in Orbassano to the area's historical heritage. The Battle of Marsaglia, also known as the Battle of Orbassano, took place in Orbassano on 4 October 1693; French troops faced the troops of Victor Amadeus II.

Landscape and cycling along the Sangone

The Orbassano section of the Parco Fluviale del Sangone is a public area of approximately 8 hectares on the right bank of the Sangone River. Sedano Rosso di Orbassano is a traditional product. Its origins date back to the import of purple celery from France in the 17th century by Duchess Anna Maria d'Orleans. Its characteristic features are the red colouring at the base of the stalks, a more intense aroma and a slightly almond-like flavour.
