Historic traces in the villagescape

The central square of Prazzo Superiore dates from around 1400. An octagonal stone fountain stands in the square. The old town hall features Celtic-style sculptures, bricked-up arches and a bifora window with a Celtic head. In the upper part of the village, you will find numerous covered passageways, private gardens, an oven and access routes to the fields. The historic villagescape also includes Casa Clerici, with medieval monofora windows, cornerstones and portals decorated with flowers, animals and human figures, as well as a chapel below the settlement along the mule track. It is dedicated to the Saints SS. Giacomo e Filippo.

Walks and hikes along the Torrente Maira

Flat walking paths along the Torrente Maira connect the lower and upper parts of Prazzo. In winter, cross-country ski trails run along these paths downstream to Ponte Marmora and upstream to Acceglio. For more demanding hiking days, a route follows a gravel road from Prazzo across the river to Colletto di Canosio and Colle di San Giovanni. Prazzo is also connected to variants of the Percorsi Occitani. This allows you to choose between flatter paths, longer connections and a more challenging hike, without reducing the different landscape experiences to one uniform excursion.

Circular routes, views and distinctive natural surroundings

In the surrounding area, the Sentiero dei Pastori follows a circular route along the southern bastions of Monte Chersogno and offers views stretching from Monviso to the Cuneo plain. The Sentiero Massimo Prando connects the high-altitude hamlets of the Vallone di San Michele with Monte Chersogno, passing through the Vallone di Ussolo and returning via the Percorsi Occitani. The La vio dal charbu trail passes through areas of natural interest and leads to viewpoints; it is associated with Prazzo Superiore and the strada vicinale del Chiotto. The Genistè is also located nearby; in 1997, the Piemonte Region recognized it as a Sito di Interesse Regionale (SIR) because of its distinctive botanical characteristics.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter

The Prazzo Cross-Country Skiing Centre has three trails: a very easy 4 km trail, an easy 4 km trail and a difficult 5 km trail. The Valle Maira Ski School offers individual and group cross-country skiing lessons, as well as guided snowshoe outings. This allows you to plan active winter days with varying levels of difficulty.

Traces of hemp processing

Borgata Rabiera is home to the only remaining hemp breaker in the Valle Maira. The Sentiero della Canapa passes through areas where hemp was once soaked and processed before returning to Prazzo Superiore.
