Holiday apartment in Marene: Panoramic Views and History
Marene between Panoramic Views and History
The Strada Reale crosses Marene from north to south across the highland in a panoramic setting, offering views of the gently rolling terrain. The rolling terrain remains part of the scene, as does the road’s north–south orientation.
The Alpine Arc and Paths beneath the Oaks
From the farmsteads of Ramé, the Alpine arc can be viewed from the Maritime Alps to Monte Rosa, with Monviso at the center. The succession of peaks gives the stay a far-reaching view and a distinctive landscape accent.
Near Sperina Alta, quiet rural paths that almost resemble cycle paths run beneath centuries-old oak trees. This path environment therefore differs clearly from the open highland of the Strada Reale. It offers its own slow-paced landscape experience for travelers who appreciate the character of rural paths and old trees while walking or cycling outdoors.
Historic Buildings in Marene
The Torre is the oldest building in Marene. It probably belonged to the fortification system protecting the castle, initially served defensive purposes, and was later converted into a town tower with bells and a clock.
The Parrocchia di Santa Maria, dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, was built between 1723 and 1741 to a design by Francesco Gallo. The feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is celebrated on September 8.
The Neo-Gothic castle was built between 1850 and 1854 at the request of Count Carlo Amedeo Grosso, to a design by the architect Luigi Formento. The Palazzo Galvagno – Municipio was built around 1796 at the request of the Galvagno family and expanded in 1872.
The Castello della Salza has a medieval brick façade on the west side and an open loggia on the east façade. Both façades give the building a clear architectural contrast.
Art, Memory, and Visits
The painting “San Giovanni Decollato” is now kept in the parish church. It is attributed to the Flemish painter Jean Claret and dated 1675. Alongside its architectural history, the parish church also contains a dated painting.
The Museo dei ricordi della “Serva di Dio” Madre Maria degli Angeli displays a reconstructed cell, as well as 16 small urns containing relics, mementos, and objects belonging to Madre Maria degli Angeli and the Operti family.
Visits to the museum are available by prior arrangement with the Carmelite nuns at 0172-742001.
