Benevello combines a fortified hilltop, historic churches and paths through the rural landscape to create a destination with a variety of experiences. Castello di Benevello was built in the 14th century as a fortification on the hill where the town centre is located. The Marquises Falletti commissioned the construction from the brothers Simonino and Pietro. Several changes of ownership and renovations later caused the military defensive features to disappear and transformed the Castello into an aristocratic country residence. The town’s present-day historic character is therefore closely linked to the development of this building.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Pietro in Vincoli also tells a story of changes to the townscape. It was demolished in 1928 and relocated to the hill where the derelict second church, San Secondo, stood. There, it took over the role of Benevello’s parish church. About one kilometre from Benevello, the Chiesa di Madonna di Langa stands on a hill along Provincial Road 106 towards Bossolasco. The viewpoint in front of the church offers views across southern Piedmont. According to a local legend, Saint Francis prayed there during his journey to Liguria.

Panoramic trails and the GTL stage

Benevello has two panoramic trails through the surrounding rural landscape. They pass through largely untouched and undeveloped nature and offer exceptional views. Both trails are signposted and, according to the municipality’s description, suitable for all fitness levels. The second panoramic trail begins on the road to Bossolasco in the Belmondo area, follows the ridge and returns to the same road after approximately 2 kilometres. The approximate route length provides clear guidance for personal day planning.

For hikers, Stage 12 of the GTL – Grande Traversata delle Langhe – adds to the network of trails. The route from Benevello to Pavaglione initially follows Provincial Road 230 towards Montemarino. It then continues along a side road towards San Bovo and onwards over a wooded ridge towards Boscasso and Pavaglione. Benevello therefore offers both panoramic trails and a regional trail connection as different options for planning outdoor activities and landscape experiences.

Museums, parks and regional discoveries

Several museums and a palace are located around Benevello: Casa VIGNA is a museum, as are the Museo Federico Eusebio and Artecontemporanea di G.Dalpozzo & D.Coffa. Palazzo Comunale Alba is a palace in the surrounding area. The wider region also includes the gardens and parks Area Verde Giovanni Falcone Paolo Borsellino, Terme di Acqui Terme and Parco del Castello. These different places broaden the choice between museum visits, architecture and green spaces, so travel planning does not have to remain limited to the trails around Benevello.

The local specialities also include a traditional livestock fair dedicated to calf breeding. Bric Cupazzolo is a hill near Benevello and adds another specific point of reference to the landscape.
