Holiday apartment in Portacomaro: The Ricetto as a fortified settlement

Il Ricetto in Portacomaro dates from the 10th or 11th century. The walled, fortified complex served to protect the houses, warehouses, granaries and important buildings of the village. The buildings of the Ricetto are located about ten metres above the level of Piazza Marconi; Piazza Marconi is the reference point for this height indication.

San Pietro: Romanesque-Lombard building with a crypt

The church of San Pietro was built around the year 1130. It is a rectangular Romanesque-Lombard building with a gabled structure. San Pietro measures 13.86 metres in length and 4.80 metres in width. The crypt is located beneath the church interior. It is accessible through a trapdoor in front of the portal.

Opening hours of San Pietro

San Pietro has a clearly limited opening schedule. From April to October, the church is open on the first Sunday of each month. It can be opened on request throughout the year, but is usually closed. Anyone planning to visit San Pietro should distinguish between the monthly openings and the year-round possibility of opening on request.

San Bartolomeo: Parish church and Rosary altar

The present-day parish church of San Bartolomeo was built in 1699–1700, after the previous building, together with two adjoining houses and a section of wall beneath it, had been demolished. In the parish church, a side altar dedicated to the Rosary preserves another historical trace: it dates from around 1654. The present-day church and the older side altar therefore belong to different periods.

Chiesa dei Battuti on the Ricetto

The Chiesa dei Battuti (Batì) stands on the Ricetto in Località Rosa. It is the traditional home of the local confraternity of flagellants.

Sagra del Caritin in the church square

At the annual Sagra del Caritin, a temporary mass is celebrated in the church square. During the ceremony, the “carità” offered by worshippers and intended for auction are blessed. The festival connects the church square with a religious ceremony and with the gifts intended for auction.

Cammino di Sant’Evasio and Sant’Evasio Chapel

The Cammino di Sant’Evasio leads to the Sant’Evasio Chapel in the Miravalle area on the border between Portacomaro and Asti.
