Cevo: History, Churches and Mountain Views

Cevo combines mountain nature with a history that is visible in specific places. For those interested in culture, Cevo’s attractions range from the Museo della Resistenza di Valsaviore to churches and the sanctuary, as well as the trail to Pian della Regina. The Museo della Resistenza di Valsaviore focuses on the history of the Resistance and Fascism in the Valsaviore. The museum aims to collect and preserve documentary sources relating to the history of the Resistance. This provides a clearly defined cultural and historical theme for planning your trip, extending beyond individual buildings.

The Croce del Papa was built for Pope John Paul II’s visit to Brescia. In 2005, it was erected on the Dosso dell’Androla in Cevo. The site thus links a specific event with a distinctive place in the landscape.

Churches, sanctuary and regional history

The Chiesa di San Sisto was built around the 12th century on the ruins of an ancient pagan place of worship. It is located in the lower part of Cevo’s historic centre and is easily accessible via a paved road near the cemetery. The Chiesa dei Santi Nazario e Celso was Cevo’s first parish church and stands on a rocky cliff above the rugged Poglia valley.

The Santuario dell’Androla was built from the 16th century until 1753. It stands on an isolated hill with panoramic views over most of the Valle di Saviore. In 1875, the Santuario was restored and expanded. Its construction period, location and subsequent alteration give this site several historical layers.

From the Pine Park to Pian della Regina

The Sentiero n. 693 – Pian della Regina begins in Cevo’s Pine Park and leads to the summit of Pian della Regina at an altitude of 2,627 metres. From the summit, the trail offers views over large parts of the Valle Camonica. Thus, the hike described here runs from a starting point in Cevo to a high-altitude viewpoint. The elevation of 2,627 metres marks the summit as a clear turning point in the hike and makes the descent a distinct section in its own right.

The descent from the Sentiero n. 693 – Pian della Regina can also be made via trails no. 685 and 692, which lead to Saviore dell’Adamello. The different routes can help you adapt your hiking plans to the route you prefer.
