San Lorenzo is a three-nave Romanesque church consecrated by Pope Innocent II in 1130.

Defensive tower, landmark and an August evening

Torre Scola was built in 1600 as a pentagonal defensive tower with walls four metres thick. It served as a lookout over Palmaria, Porto Venere’s dell’Olivo Bay and the eastern shore of the Gulf as far as Lerici. The Church of San Pietro is considered a landmark of the settlement of Porto Venere. In San Lorenzo, the Madonna Bianca is honoured on 17 August with a nighttime celebration featuring numerous torches and lights in the old town centre and on the boats.
